Basic Story Idea

A large older crocodile is laying on the bank of a river, looking miserable. His stomach grumbles loudly as he looks at himself and sighs. Suddenly there is a rustle in the brush by the riverbank. He curiously watches the movement, but doesn't move. Suddenly a kitten tumbles out of the brush, plopping on the ground near him and blinking in the bright light. The crocodile blinks at first, then his eyes light up and he hops up on his feet. The kitten seems unfazed as the crocodile's mouth begins to water and he wrings his paws in anticipation. The kitten mews softly as the crocodile snatches up the kitten, licking his lips. He opens his mouth and moves to put the kitten in. But the kitten licks his hands and looks up at him with big round kitty eyes. The crocodile looks down in annoyance at the licking, but his hungry face melts away as he looks at the kitten overly cute face. He looks up at the sky with a tormented look on his face as he pulls the kitten close to his body. He holds the kitten out at arms length as it blinks slowly and licks his paw again. The crocodile's face softens and he gingerly puts the kitten down on the ground. The kitten begins rolling on the ground and generally acting cute. The crocodile plops down and looks conflicted about what to do. The kitten comes up to his legs and rubs itself against him while looking up at him with a content face. The crocodile sighs heavily and pats the kitten gingerly on the head. It closes it's eyes in happiness and curls up against his side. The crocodile looks down at the kitten, his hands up to his chest in confusion. He looks blankly into the distance, unsure of what to do. He finally blinks and looks back down at the kitten sleeping happily. He smiles softly and crosses his arms across his chest. His stomach grumbles again softly, he grimaces slightly as he rests his head on his chest and dozes off.

The crocodile wakes up slowly and raises his head up to look around. He stretches out and looks down at the kitten with sleepy eyes. Only the kitten is nowhere to be found. He hops up on to his feet in alarm. He frantically looks around to find the kitten. He notices something at the water's edge. He peers at it, trying to get a better look and realizes it's the kitten lapping up the water at the river. He sighs in relief, and let's himself sag back down on his back legs. As he plops down again, his stomach grumbles again, this time louder than before. He grimaces once more and looks back at the kitten, still lapping away at the water. Suddenly he notices movement on the water's surface and two predatory eyes pop up above water level. The crocodile's eyes open wide as he scrambles up on his feet in panic. He rushes over to the kitten as more eyes begin to pop up in the water. He picks up speed as the panic floods through him. The kitten has finished drinking and is happily sitting at the bank cleaning itself off. Suddenly the water erupts with three hungry crocodile mouths. The kitten jumps up in the air with it's tail puffed and every hair standing up on it's body. Just before the first crocodile is able to reach the kitten the kitten is snatched away by the older crocodile. It's jaws snap shut where the kitten used to be.  The older crocodile holds the kitten away as far away from the water as he can. He bares his teeth at the smaller crocodiles and hisses at them. They back into the water startled but not giving up yet. The older crocodile glares at the smaller crocs until they disappeared under the surface. He sighs and looks back at the kitten in his paw only to realize that the kitten had hopped out of his hands and was gone again. He looks around again, but the kitten is nowhere to be found. He sags and drops his hands to his sides. He looks back to the spot where the crocodiles were, and sees their angry eyes still sitting above the surface, but they were all there. He gives them one more tough look but his bravado disappears as he looks down at his empty hands. He drags himself away from the water's edge. He flops himself on the ground and sighs as his stomach rumbles again. He closes his eyes and lets his stomach grumble and protest loudly.

A muffled sound escapes from the bushes. The crocodile open's one of his eyes to look at the brush. The sound steadily grows louder. He opens both eyes and squints into the brush trying to see what it is. Then the little kitten comes through the branches with something in it's mouth. The crocodile's eyes open wide and he scoops up the kitten into his arms, holding it tight. He then hold it out looking over the kitten with concerned eyes. The kitten mews with it's mouth full of something, the crocodile looks at the kitten in confusion and sets it down, leaning over to see what it has. The kitten spits out a sizable beetle, puffing out it's chest in pride. The crocodile blinks at the kitten, as it struts around him, and pushes the beetle toward the crocodile. The crocodile picks up the kitten in one paw and the beetle in the other. He tosses the beetle into his mouth, as the kitten purrs. He nuzzles the kitten with his snout. He set the kitten on his head as he settles on all four paws. The kitten kneads itself into a ball of fur and snuggle against his scales. The crocodile smiles and marches off into the brush with his new little buddy.

  1. Hi Kelsey, your character and your story are super adorbs. I'm excited to see your storyboard. Let's see some designs for the kitten. Good payoff at the end--the croc's rewarded for doing the right thing, and he won't be lonely anymore. Awesome!
